Creative Inspire 100109

This one comes from Mirko Camia from Minlan Italy. Not only is the design, colours, concept and extreme detail of this piece out of this world inspirational, but the message is too.

Building on yesterday's paper work, Peter Callesen show's us what's possible with a steady hand and an exacto knife. I bet this dude has never lost a game of Operation in his life. Make sure to check out his site because there are many more impressive works in his portfolio.

Serene Teh & Noel Lee had me flipping out when I watched this! Bad puns aside these two did a killer job pulling off some very original stuff. At some point I'm going to watch this thing frame by frame because the hands are definitely moving quicker then my eyes. I remember making some stick man flip book animations years back but these guys take the concept to a whole new level.

I like to think you can find inspiration in everything. So here’s a picture of everything to inspire you. This is a work in progress from Howard Hallis. Sounds like the drawing portion of this piece will wrap up near the end of this month. Still lots of work to go to get it ready to be a 3D lenticular. By the way this is only a section of the big picture. To see the full thing you’ll have to go to his website:

Props to Clifford the Big Red Dog. I don’t know if I’d be that cool, calm and collected with a tank in my face.

Here’s a creative idea for a canvas. Scott Wade has found a perfect excuse to never hit up the car wash again. I love non-traditional ways of getting art out there and this one is certainly more fun then writing out “wash me” on the rear window of your friend’s dirty ride. If you like it, make sure to check his site out because there’s a whole gallery at www.dirtycarart.com

This is one of the best stop motion animations I’ve ever seen. It’s called The Pen Story. 9,600 prints over 3 minutes telling a story that spans decades. The pre-production on this would have taken some serious planning to pull off this masterpiece. What I think I like most about this one is that it takes you so many different places in such a short period of time, with a new surprise every few feet traveled.

For the past two years or so I've been getting more and more addicted to the open source movement. The whole concept of a community donating their time to building software, in a collaborative effort, to give that software to the world freely just appeals to the inner hippie in me.

What really got me hooked into these ideals was when I saw it's full potential unleashed in the short film Big Buck Bunny. The short animated film was produced by the Blender Foundation, released in 2008 and is truly an impressive accomplishment. All the software used to make the movie was open source (majority of the work being done in Blender 3D). The movie itself is creative commons and pretty much all the elements, textures and characters are all open source and available for download so that you can use them to learn from them.
